russian 'engineering mind' is awake, pondering how to protect russian tanks from Ukrainian attack drones, but sometimes it comes out quite funny and is hardly effective

russian troops began to instal shipping containers (sea cans) on tanks as an addition to already known artisanal structures such as " sheds" and "BBQ grills" to make their armored vehicles more protected

The video was published by the @region22ua channel on Telegram. The footage shows two tanks of an unknown type with new containers on their tops.

Due to the low quality of the video as well as the presence of container superstructures, it is difficult to accurately identify the modification, but the characteristic features of the aft part may indicate the T-80BVM tank.

Both combat vehicles are equipped with a new type of improvised protection for the battlefield - shipping containers installed directly on top of the chassis.

In the front part of the containers, cut-outs are made to ensure the operation of the cannon, while on top the structure is additionally covered with a metal mesh, probably to protect against attacks from above, in particular drones.

The rear part of the containers, at least visually, remained without significant changes. On the sides, improvised cutouts for the exhaust system are visible, which should prevent the accumulation of exhaust gas inside.

At the same time, the design has no additional protective elements: the chassis of the tank is completely open, and there are no means of radio-electronic warfare on the upper part of the containers.

It is worth noting that the walls of standard shipping containers are quite thin – their thickness is usually 1.5-2 mm. Such containers are made of corten steel, which is not designed for ballistic protection.

Under such conditions, such "protection" is easily affected by small arms, fragments of artillery ammunition, as well as means of destruction from drones.

The weight of such a container is about 2.2 tons, but it was reduced by cutting out the lower and front parts.
