Ukraine is already testing modernized Leopard 1 tank with new C3105 turret from Belgian John Cockerill. The latter received contract for supplying 30 more such combat modules to Ukrainian military from unknown customer.
Company representatives told this to observer Jeff21461 at Eurosatory 2026 weapons exhibition. It is noted first 5 units will arrive in June 2027, meaning in one year, while remaining deliveries will continue through end of 2027.

Defense Express notes that given John Cockerill's Belgian origin, assumption can be made order was most likely paid for by Belgium. It has most reasons to finance such contract to support own defense industry.
However, should note here this could generally have been another country within military assistance framework, simply Belgians are most probable. Plus, procurement request could have come from Ukrainian military based on combat testing results at front, which became known in March 2026.

Recall company names main Leopard 1 with C3105 turret advantage as capability to conduct indirect fire from closed positions. At the same time, it is noted no other Western tank has such functionality.
This is achieved through gun elevation angle up to 42 degrees, whereas other Western vehicles typically have 15-20 degrees. Plus, John Cockerill most likely equipped their combat module with special fire control system.

Interestingly, Ukrainian military already using standard Leopard 1A5 said they await modernization testing as it will help increase indirect fire range to 18 km. However, exactly how this will be achieved is not specified.
Leopard 1 with C3105 was first shown back in summer 2022 but remained little-known until May 2025 announcement of Ukraine testing. Confirmation occurred spring 2026 with first photo appearance, which raised questions regarding insufficient vehicle drone protection, remaining biggest threat.
