Ukraine's state-owned defense conglomerate presented the new grenades during Eurosatory 2026 in Paris. According to company representatives, neither system has yet been formally adopted for military service.
The new designs feature an upgraded thermobaric mixture intended to increase effectiveness by 20–30% compared with the RGT-27S2.

During the presentation, company officials also commented on reports that emerged in January 2026 regarding defective batches of RGT-27S2 grenades. According to a Ukroboronprom representative, the issue was linked to an outdated detonator manufactured in 1973.
The company noted that it does not produce the detonator itself. However, officials stated that the supplier has been replaced and additional quality-control measures have since been introduced.
There is currently no publicly available information allowing an independent assessment of how widespread the defect was among RGT-27S2 grenades. It is also unclear whether similar issues affected other munitions that may use related components, including the PVP-50 anti-personnel mine and the MPEM-1 anti-tank mine.
As for the new products, the RGT-45 weighs 500 grams and contains 300 grams of thermobaric mixture. The grenade is claimed to provide an effective damage volume exceeding 120 cubic meters in enclosed spaces.
The smaller RGT-45A weighs 225 grams and contains 135 grams of thermobaric mixture. Its effective damage volume is stated to exceed 60 cubic meters.
For comparison, the RGT-27S2 entered service with the Ukrainian military in 2020.

Eurosatory 2026 featured a wide range of Ukrainian-developed defense products, including missiles, unmanned systems, and armored vehicles. Among the notable exhibits were the Vyrivniuvach precision-guided glide bomb and the VIPER unmanned ground vehicle developed by UkrArmoTech.
The exhibition also hosted several major cooperation agreements involving Ukraine's defense industry. These included a partnership between MBDA and the Luch Design Bureau on the development of the Neptune 2 cruise missile, as well as an agreement between Hensoldt and Fire Point to support the development of the Freya anti-ballistic air-defense system.
