Slovakia to Spend 1.6 Billion Euros to Decommission Soviet BMP-1 And BMP-2

The Slovak military forces want to get the latest infantry fighting vehicle, which could be equipped with active protection and modular weapon

The Slovak government has decided to purchase 152 CV90 Mk IV infantry fighting vehicles produced by BAE Systems. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Slovakia, Jaroslav Nad’, states the Polish portal Defence24.

The cost of the purchase will amount to 1.68 billion euros. The Slovak authorities have chosen an interesting mechanism for the purchase of CV90 Mk IV tracked infantry fighting vehicles: the money will be allocated by the export credit agency Svensk Exportkredit, the formal buyer will be the Defense Procurement Agency of Slovakia (FMV).

Slovakia will buy 152 CV90 Mk IV infantry fighting vehicles to replace 148 BMP-1 and 91 BMP-2. The main features of tracked BMP type CV90 modification Mk IV is the new Scania 1000hp engine, updated transmission, combat weight increased to 37 tons; on-board electronic equipment of the 4th generation NGVA architecture, which can work with 3D maps and "augmented reality helmets".

Also, the Israeli-made Iron Fist active defense system is integrated, and the turret allows the installation of several types of weapons according to the "modular" principle: automatic 30 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm and 50 mm calibers guns, machine guns of various calibers and launchers for Spike LR2 guided missiles.

How long all 152 CV90 Mk IV infantry fighting vehicles should be delivered to the armed forces of Slovakia has not been disclosed yet.
