B-1 Bomber involvement in iran war and their unprecedented deployment may be impetus to keep these aircraft in U.S. air force service longer

A few weeks ago, we reported that the U.S. transferred half of its combat-ready B-1s to Europe in a matter of days. From March 6 to 10 inclusive, at least 15 bombers total arrived at Royal Air Force Fairford base in the United Kingdom, the vast majority being B-1B Lancers.

After a break of slightly more than two weeks, arrival of three more of these bombers at the base was recorded. Taking into account redeployment of additional B-52Hs to Fairford, at least 21 bombers are now stationed there overall.

As Air and Space Forces Magazine emphasizes, we're actually talking about one of the largest bomber operations in modern military history. However, in any case, we're talking about a truly unprecedented deployment specifically of B-1B Lancer bombers, which most actively participate in Operation Epic Fury against iran.

Fifteen of these bombers are now stationed at Fairford base at once. This is over a third of the available fleet of 44 aircraft. Taking into account the fact that less than half of them are combat-ready, we're talking about deployment of over 70% of B-1B bombers from the total number of those aircraft currently capable of participating in combat operations.

This testifies to how actively Americans are using their B-1B Lancer bombers. Earlier, the U.S. was already thinking about whether it would be premature to retire them in the near future.

Returning to the topic of bombers in the iran war, it's worth mentioning that those same B-52s also based at Fairford are equipped with GBU-31 guided bombs. This is about the U.S. transitioning to advanced carpet bombing, which could end in fatal losses.

Defense Express previously reported on a new undisclosed secret of the B-2 Spirit strategic bomber, which was spotted with mysterious white rectangles.
