Ukrainian unmanned systems operators have struck two key elements of russia's layered air defense network in the south, targeting both modern russian S-350 Vityaz system and Tor-M2KM short-range platform. The strikes, reported on April 20 by the Unmanned Systems Forces commander Robert Madyar Brovdi.
On the Zaporizhzhia axis, drone operators from the 414th Brigade successfully hit russian 50N6E radar associated with the S-350 system. This radar is a central component of the Vityaz system, responsible for target detection, tracking, and engagement coordination. Its neutralization significantly reduces the system's ability to detect and intercept aerial threats within its operational envelope.

The S-350 Vityaz represents one of russia's newer medium-range surface-to-air missile systems, designed as a more modern and flexible successor to older platforms like S-300 system. Its radar is capable of detecting targets at ranges of up to 60 kilometers and altitudes reaching 25 kilometers, while simultaneously tracking dozens of aerial objects.
Separately, in the Melitopol area, operators from the 1st Separate Unmanned Systems Center struck the Tor-M2KM system. Unlike the larger S-350 system, the Tor-M2KM unit is a highly mobile, modular short-range air defense system designed to protect high-value assets and formations from low-flying threats such as drones, cruise missiles, and guided munitions. Its destruction or disablement opens gaps at the tactical level, particularly in frontline or rear-area force protection.
Tor-M2KM system's modular design allows it to be deployed across various platforms, including ground vehicles and naval vessels, making it a versatile asset in russia's arsenal. However, this flexibility also means it is frequently positioned closer to the front lines or critical infrastructure, areas increasingly within reach of Ukrainian drone operations. Its loss can have an immediate impact on localized air defense coverage.
As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian forces have reported a successful strike against russian artillery assets on the Lyman axis, highlighting the continued focus on degrading enemy firepower in one of the most contested sectors of the front. According to the Signum battalion, operators identified and engaged multiple high-value targets, including rocket artillery and armored vehicles.
