North Korea has sharply criticized the development and deployment of Japan's missile program. This is quite amusing, considering that the country itself develops and manufactures a large arsenal of missiles, some of which are supplied to russia for strikes against Ukraine.
According to Defense Blog, North Korea's position was expressed by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The serious development of Japan's defense capabilities was called "an extremely dangerous idea."

This year, Tokyo wants to deploy missiles with a range of 1,000 kilometers in the western prefecture of Kumamoto. Additional deployments are also planned in Oita and Okinawa prefectures by 2026.
Such actions in North Korea were described not as defense measures, but as preparations for a preemptive strike. At the same time, it is claimed that Japan aims to become a serious military power to wage offensive war in the future.

On the Japanese side, the missile program development is described as part of a strategy of deterrence and self-defense. It is emphasized that in order to ensure its defense, it is important to have long-range means of striking back.
From Defense Express we would like to add that such statements by North Korea closely resemble those russia made in the past about Ukraine and NATO countries today. The strengthening of other countries' military capabilities is presented as a threat, even though russia is engaged in a massive build-up of its own military capabilities.

Ukrainians have already become familiar with the danger posed by North Korean ballistic missiles, which are periodically used by russian military. However, Japan also perceives a threat from North Korea's testing of intercontinental ballistic missiles launched in its direction.
Due to differences in size, capabilities, and historical context, North Korea and russia cannot be compared. However, there is a clear trend in the behavior of dictatorships toward their neighbors' desire to defend themselves.
