In 2026, Ukraine can count on a significant strengthening of the country's Armed Forces with new models of fighters, airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) systems, the most powerful European air defense systems, cruise and ballistic missiles

In 2026, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will continue to receive new weapons from partner countries and not only, as very important domestic weapons will also enter service.

It should be noted right away that the list below is not exhaustive, but these models definitely deserve attention.

Gripens for Ukraine

Amidst the announcement of plans to supply 100-150 new Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters, the information that Ukraine expects to receive used fighters in 2026 went unnoticed by the general public. Talks about this have been going on for quite some time, and back in 2024, Sweden fixed the number of sets of components for the aircraft that would be transferred to Ukraine.

It is worth understanding the difference between the used Gripen C/D and the new Gripen E/F, which is quite significant, as the aircraft differ even in size. However, even up to 14 Gripen C/Ds, which are to be delivered to Ukraine this year, will definitely not be superfluous for the Ukrainian Air Force.

The importance of supplying these fighters to Ukraine is also great as the main air combat tool for Gripen is the longest-range Western Meteor air-to-air missile with a range of up to 200 km. Neither the F-16 nor the Mirage 2000-5, which are already in service with the Ukrainian Air Force, have the ability to destroy russian aircraft at such a distance.

Saab 340 AEW&C from Sweden to Ukraine

Despite the fact that the transfer of two Saab 340 AEW&C (ASC 890) early warning aircraft by Sweden was announced back in early 2024, they have not yet arrived in Ukraine in more than a year and a half. The last announcement regarding their status was dated late March 2025 - work on preparing these aircraft for transfer to Ukraine is continuing according to plan and their terms are coordinated with the terms of preparation of some F-16 modernizations, which are also to be transferred to Ukraine.

The character of the work on the modernization of the F-16 was not disclosed, but it would be logical to assume that they may concern the installation of an automatic exchange system on these fighters, which is compatible with the one used on the Saab 340 AEW&C and can be transferred to Ukraine.

If this aircraft did not end up in Ukraine in 2025, then most likely it will definitely happen in 2026. The chances of this increase due to the fact that the transfer of the Saab 340 AEW&C may also be tied to Ukraine receiving Swedish Gripen fighters, which must definitely be compatible with the Swedish AEW&C aircraft.

We should add that it is thanks to AEW&C aircraft that it becomes possible to unleash the potential of long-range air-to-air missiles, when the fighter will receive target designation from a powerful airborne radar, not limited to the capabilities of the onboard radar. And most importantly, AEW&C aircraft significantly improve the air defense system by effectively detecting low-altitude targets, such as drones and cruise missiles, with which the russians terrorize the population of Ukraine every day.

SAMP-T NG SAM for Ukraine

Along with the plan for a hundred French Rafale fighters for Ukraine, which have not yet been confirmed by signing a “firm” contract, France has announced its intention to arm Ukraine with 8 new SAMP/T NG SAMs at once.

According to insider information, the first such system should arrive in Ukraine in 2026. It should be noted that the French have defined this year as the year of these SAMs’ acceptance ointo operation as well as the start of their serial production.

We may be talking about the possibility of transferring the first (or several first) experimental samples to Ukraine. In particular, in December 2024, two versions of SAMP/T NG (French and Italian) were tested. The versions of SAMP/T NG have different radars - their integration, together with the new missile, are the main elements of the modernization of this system.

The expected transfer of even experimental SAMP/T NG to Ukraine may have a very pragmatic explanation – their real testing in combat conditions.

FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles

In 2026, the Defense Forces of Ukraine should also be strengthened by new products from domestic defense companies, including long-range weapons. Although domestic defense companies often try not to advertise their developments, and the appearance of some, for example, the Bars missile, becomes known almost a year later, Fire Point decided to announce the appearance of the FP-7 ballistic missile.

Recall that the FP-7 ballistic missile has a declared range of 200 km and a warhead of 150 kg. During a public event held in November 2025, it was announced that the codification of the missile should be completed by the end of the year. This means that in 2026 this ballistic missile can already be supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a contract basis, but not as a prototype.

Subsequently, approximately in the summer of 2026, the FP-9 ballistic missile should also pass all the tests. It was stated earlier that it would have a range of 855 km as well as a warhead weighing 800 kg.

ERAM cruise missiles from the USA for Ukraine

As previously reported, in 2026 Ukraine should receive two more samples of long-range weapons - cruise missiles, which were created within the framework of the ERAM - Extended Range Attack Munition project. U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) approved $825 Million sale of ERAM cruise missiles to Ukraine in late August 2025.

We wrote earlier that these could be Rusty Dagger by Zone 5 Technologies and RAACM by CoAspire. These missiles are conceptually similar to each other, belong to the class of 500-pound (227 kg) aviation ammunition and should fly at a range of up to 400 km. The main advantage of these missiles is the price - about 246 thousand dollars per unit. That is why for 825 million dollars, which Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway are to allocate, it is possible to buy several thousand such missiles.

It is worth mentioning that the Norwegian defense giant Kongsberg acquired 90% of Zone 5 Technologies in December 2025 and therefore, perhaps, the volume of supplies to Ukraine may be greater or less dependent on the political situation in the United States.
