A serviceman from the 95th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained how Ukrainian fighters use SPG-9M "Spys" (also known as "Kopyo" in russian) anti-tank recoilless guns on the battlefield. A video interview with the deputy commander of the brigade Vladyslav was published by the Air Assault Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The SPG-9M ‘Spys’ were used to destroy a group of enemies as well as light-armored vehicles – with the help of HE-FRAG munitions from closed firing positions at a range of up to 7,000 meters. We placed them for direct fire literally several times with cumulative charges," says the soldier.

Vladyslav notes that if the firing squad is well coordinated and "knows how to work under the correct adjustment of the firing position commander", the effectiveness of this weapon is at its highest.

With the help of the SPG-9M "Spys", Ukrainian gunmen can disable a range of light armored vehicles of the russian army: BTR-80, BTR-82 and BMP-3, as well as demolish trenches with the occupiers inside. They even say there was a case when they blew up an enemy command and control center of a company level from six kilometers away.

Vladyslav pointed out that although the SPG-9M "Spys" is a rather obsolete Soviet development, if it is used with "the latest tactics and knowledge of this weapon, then impossible things can be done."

"It's something similar to how the Americans gave us HIMARS, we started using them with such tactics that no country in the world uses them like that. We use the SPG with the same attitude. I think not everyone can work like that, especially our enemy," Vladyslav concludes.

The SPG-9 "Spys" is a Soviet mounted anti-tank grenade launcher, adopted in 1963, actively used by the Ukrainian military since 2014 after the invasion of the russian federation into Ukraine.
