Pilots of the 414th Brigade struck russian Buk-M1 air defense system along with fuel storage and logistics sites near Liubymivka, Shchotove, and Valianivske

Ukrainian drone operators have struck another critical element of russia's air defense network, targeting russian Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system in temporarily occupied east of Ukraine. The strike was carried out by pilots of the Kairos 9th Battalion from the 414th Brigade.

The operation was confirmed on April 3 by Major Robert Madyar Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces. According to his statement, russian air defense system was detected and destroyed overnight near the settlement of Liubymivka in temporarily occupied parts of Luhansk region.

The targeted Buk-M1 is a self-propelled medium-range air defense system designed to engage maneuvering aerial targets, including those flying at very low altitudes. Despite its intended role in countering aerial threats, the system proved vulnerable to Ukrainian drone warfare tactics.

Robert Brovdi emphasized that even a system designed to intercept low-flying targets could not withstand a strike from a Ukrainian drone equipped with a 60-100 kg warhead. His remarks underscore the growing effectiveness of heavy strike UAVs against legacy Soviet-era air defense assets.

In addition to the destruction of the Buk-M1 system, Ukrainian drone pilots conducted further strikes on russian logistical infrastructure. Fuel tankers were destroyed near the settlement of Shchotove, while ammunition or supply depots were hit in the village of Valianivske, both located in temporarily occupied Luhansk region.

These strikes were carried out in coordination with the Deep Strike Center, indicating a structured and increasingly sophisticated approach to long-range and operational-level targeting. The integration of reconnaissance, targeting, and strike capabilities continues to enhance the reach and precision of Ukrainian drone units.

The targeting of both air defense systems and logistics points to a deliberate strategy aimed at degrading russia's ability to sustain operations and protect its rear areas. Eliminating systems like the Buk-M1 not only reduces immediate threats to Ukrainian aircraft and drones but also opens corridors for further strikes deeper behind enemy lines.
