Lithuanian People Donate Portable Radars to Ukrainian Army

Sized as an average smartphone, Wingman UAV detection system can spot a drone from 5 km afar

Lithuanians continue to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This time, they funded the purchase of anti-UAV radar systems WINGMAN to help take down russian drones.

The news was announced by the fundraiser’s organizer, Lithuanian journalist Andrius Tapinas on Twitter:

The WINGMAN is a series of wearable, intuitive drone detection alarms. It’s portable size makes it easy to use on the battlefield, yet it can detect an enemy UAV from kilometers away. The exact figure depends on model – WINGMAN 103/104/105 respectively.

Tapinas did not specify which one will go to Ukraine but the WINGMAN 105 is the only one capable to cover a radius of 5 km (6 km, according to the Danish manufacturer MyDefence).

The radar detects a drone’s control signal or video downlink signal "often before the drone takes off from the ground" and raises alarm. It can function autonomously or with an additional antenna to increase the angle and frequency coverage.

The already familiar story happened this time, too: Lithuanians purchased 73 radar systems, and seven more were gifted by manufacturer. Similar thing happened when Lithuanians raised money for a TB2 Bayraktar drone, and Turkish Baykar Makina gave it for the Ukrainian Army free of charge, and then donated three more after the same (this time, Ukrainian) fundraiser.

The WINGMAN systems worth €1,095,000 in total are expected to arrive soon. They will facilitate the 110 units of EDM4S "Orcrist" anti-drone rifles previously donated by Lithuanian people to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
