British cruise missile development for Ukraine within Brakestop project in Ukraine's interests under British Defense Ministry aegis should yield results before end of current 2026, when first samples should arrive.
Besides Brakestop project initiated in September 2024, Britain is developing ballistic missiles in Ukraine's interests under Nightfall project. This project started one year later in August 2025. Therefore question of when specifically they will be ready and should strengthen Armed Forces is quite fair.

Should immediately note Nightfall development proceeds significantly less publicly and encountered complications and postponements. Specifically initially London formulated certain requirements, then within half year was forced to soften them:
- Flight range: from 600 km >>> from 500 km
- Warhead: from 300 kg >>> from 200 kg
- Accuracy ±5 meters >>> ±10 meters
- Price: £500,000 >>> £800,000 (approximately $1 million)
Only after this, spring this year contracts were concluded with three unnamed manufacturers for ballistic missile development. However, if Brakestop cruise missile developers were officially announced, Nightfall project contestants remain unknown. Despite British government promising May 22 to do this soon. However overall London tries not to publicize this project development.
Because of this, currently unclear whether timelines announced early this year remain relevant: prototype development for testing within 12 months from contract receipt, first Ukraine deliveries late 2027. Also worth recalling planned production volume, not less than 10 units monthly.
At the same time, simpler Brakestop project timeline shift, which initially envisioned cruise missile deliveries to Ukraine from September 2025, to late 2026, meaning 1.5 years, demonstrates analogous timeline shift risks for Nightfall project to 2028 or even 2029.
Ultimately Nightfall project is currently only known operational-tactical class ballistic missile creation project in European NATO segment. It also once again underlines how complex this task is.
