Ukrainian drone operators from the Phoenix unit have destroyed a rare Chinese-made Type 63 multiple launch rocket system on the Lyman axis.
The footage, released by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on May 21, shows operators systematically targeting russian artillery positions concealed among trees and vegetation. According to the unit, drone crews managed to eliminate around a dozen enemy guns during the operation.

Particularly notable was the destruction of the Type 63 MLRS, a lightweight 107 mm rocket launcher originally developed in China during the 1960s. Although outdated compared to modern systems, the launcher remains widespread across various conflict zones due to its simplicity, mobility, and low production cost. Its appearance on the battlefield once again demonstrates russia's reliance on increasingly diverse and aging foreign-supplied equipment.
Type 63 system is typically mounted on a lightweight trailer or vehicle platform and can fire a salvo of rockets within seconds before rapidly relocating. Despite its relatively short range and limited accuracy compared to modern rocket artillery, the system can still pose a threat to infantry positions and lightly protected targets when used in saturation attacks.
The released footage also illustrates the evolving role of heavy strike drones in frontline combat. Ukrainian forces reportedly used Vampire-type heavy UAV during the operation, a platform widely employed for nighttime bombing missions, logistics strikes, and precision attacks against enemy personnel and equipment.
In one episode highlighted by the Border Guard Service, a russian serviceman attempted to shoot down the approaching drone with an assault rifle after spotting it overhead. The effort proved unsuccessful, and the soldier was immediately targeted and eliminated by the drone operators.
Beyond artillery destruction, the unit reported additional strikes against russian logistics and manpower. Such attacks remain a critical component of Ukraine's broader strategy aimed at degrading supply chains, limiting ammunition delivery, and disrupting troop movements near active combat zones.
