Estonia has ordered three additional K239 Chunmoo launchers from South Korean defense manufacturer Hanwha Aerospace, further expanding its long-range strike capabilities in the Baltic region.
The purchase could also strengthen Estonia’s ability to threaten key russian naval facilities near Saint Petersburg, including assets of the russian Baltic Fleet.

The intergovernmental agreement was signed between the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency. The deal expands Estonia’s original Chunmoo order placed in December 2025.

With the latest acquisition, Estonia is now expected to receive a total of nine K239 Chunmoo launchers adapted to local operational requirements.
The launchers will reportedly be capable of using CGR-080 guided rockets as well as CTM-MR and CTM-290 ballistic missiles.
This would allow Estonian forces to strike russian troop concentrations, military infrastructure, and bases at distances of up to 290 kilometers, significantly improving both tactical strike options and regional deterrence.
The CTM-MR missile family also includes the CTM-ASBM anti-ship variant, potentially giving Estonia the ability to target russian naval assets in the Baltic Sea.

One of the main bases of russia's Baltic Fleet in Kronstadt lies roughly 110 kilometers away, while the anti-ship missile’s range is reportedly up to 160 kilometers.
Alongside the Chunmoo systems, Estonia already operates six M142 HIMARS launchers supplied by the United States. In April 2026, Tallinn ordered three additional HIMARS launchers.
At the same time, Estonia does not appear willing to rely exclusively on HIMARS due to relatively long delivery timelines.

As a result, the Estonian Armed Forces are expected to field 18 precision-guided MLRS launchers with a broad arsenal ranging from guided rockets to short-range ballistic missiles.
The main challenge now will be securing sufficient ammunition stockpiles for sustained operations.
The K239 Chunmoo continues gaining popularity across Europe. One of the latest export customers is Norway, while missile production for the system is also being localized in Poland.
