In his nightly address, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that on Tuesday, May 10 special group of international experts proposed a roadmap for energy sanctions to make it difficult for Russia to finance war with Ukraine.
“Today a special group of international experts chaired by Michael McFaul and Andriy Yermak proposed a roadmap for energy sanctions. This is a detailed document that describes what needs to be done to make it really difficult for Russia to finance this war, but at the same time - so that the global economy does not suffer losses due to restrictions on Russian energy resources. 00:25 Prosecutor General's Office: Russian military stole ancient gold artifacts from occupied Melitopol, proceedings initiated.

00:10 In his nightly address, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy addressed the death of Leonid Kravchuk, the first president of Ukraine, The Guardian reports.
He said: “He was not just a politician. And not just a historical figure. He was the man who knew how to find wise words and say them so that all Ukrainians could hear them.
This is especially important in difficult, crisis moments. When the future of an entire country may depend on the wisdom of one person.
Leonid Makarovych showed just such wisdom in the late 1980s, when the Ukrainian movement emerged. He passed 1991 brilliantly, and it is only now that it may seem as if it was easy for him then.
And no matter what happened later, Leonid Kravchuk always stayed with Ukraine.
Perhaps it was because of his wisdom that he was cheerful in a special way. He always valued life, every minute of it. But he always found much more than one minute to help sort things out and give advice. And I am personally grateful to him in particular for that.
As a child he survived World War II, survived the occupation. Leonid Makarovych knew what freedom costs. And with all his heart he wanted peace for Ukraine. I’m sure we will implement it. We will achieve our victory and our peace.”
Leonid Kravchuk, first president of Ukraine, dies aged 88.

23:00 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky: Russian troops launch over 2,000 missile strikes on Ukraine.
Russian troops have launched 2,154 missile strikes on Ukraine since the Russian invasion started, including 25 missile strikes on the city of Odesa on May 8-9, 2022.
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his speech in the Parliament of Malta, Ukrinform reports.
“Just think of this terrible figure: 2154 Russian missiles hit our cities and communities in a little over two months. 2770 appearances of enemy planes in our sky were recorded. The Russian bombing of Ukraine does not cease any day or night. […] In two days, on May 8 and 9, when Europeans honored the memory of the victims of World War II and celebrated Europe Day, the Russian army launched 25 missiles targeting Odesa and the Odesa region alone. All 25 missiles were aimed at civilian objects,” Zelensky told.
In his words, just yesterday, when President of the European Council Charles Michel visited Ukraine's warm city of Odesa and met with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, he was forced to go down to the bomb shelter because of Russia’s missile strikes.
According to the President of Ukraine, Russia is deliberately launching air strikes on civilian objects knowing that there are no military there.
As Defense Express reported as of the end of April, the quantity of "Iskander" and "Calibr" cruise missiles has dropped to a critical level and was not more than 40% of the pre-war totality.

22:35 After more than two month of offensive in Ukraine, russian invading forces are running short of high-precision missiles and more often use old weaponry.
In today's daily report Operational Command "South" said russians uses Soviet-made missiles to strike on Odesa. The evening shelling of May 9 resulted in destruction of a touristic infrastructure object, a department store and inductrial products storage. One person was killed, seven were injured.
"If the other day enemy still used modern air-launched missiles, now the 'save mode' of ammunition spending is obvious. The launch of obsolete Soviet-made missiles is turning into such a pointless and at the same time insidious shelling of civilian targets, killing of civilians, and psychological pressure of being under constant threat," the spokesperson of the southern command said.

21:45 Belarus deploying special operations forces in three areas near border with Ukraine.
As part of the second stage of inspecting the Belarusian immediate reaction forces, special operations troops will be deployed near the border with Ukraine.
The relevant statement was made by Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Gulevich, Ukrinform reports, referring to the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
“In order to ensure the security of the Republic of Belarus in the Southern direction, special operations forces will be deployed in three tactical areas,” the report states.
In addition, battalion tactical groups were moved to the Western and Northwestern operational directions (i.e. to the border with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia). For reinforcement purposes, air defense, missile and artillery units are also deployed, as ‘the United States and its Allies are reshuffling troops’ near the Belarusian border.
21:10 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky: Russia does not agree to any option for saving Mariupol defenders.
Ukraine uses all possible diplomatic tools to rescue the defenders of Mariupol, but Russia has not yet agreed to any of the many options offered.
“Its defenders still remain in Mariupol. They continue their resistance on the territory of the Azovstal plant. We use all possible diplomatic tools to organize rescue for them. But Russia has not yet agreed to any of the many options offered,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in his address to the Parliament of Malta.
He noted that Ukraine had asked its partners for the necessary weapons to unblock Mariupol and save military and civilians. However, Ukraine still does not have the necessary weapons and the amount needed to unblock Mariupol.
“What does it mean? You can fully understand this by simply remembering the importance of the British Spitfires in the spring Maltese sky of 1942,” the President stressed.
As noted, Britain and the United States accomplished the mission involving the Spitfires which changed the course of the battle for Malta and helped destroy the ambition of the then aggressor to capture the island.
“And now we need a similar mission from our partners. To destroy the ambition of the current aggressor to capture Ukraine and other European countries. We need aircraft, helicopters, special artillery and other weapons, because now, as 80 years ago, Europe's future is decided on the battlefield,” Zelensky said.
According to him, there is no doubt that Russia is aware of what is happening in Mariupol because the Russian army was ordered to destroy this city and kill as many people as possible. Russian planes are constantly dropping air bombs and phosphorus munitions on buildings in which they know for sure that people are sheltering there and there are no military. "It's just terror," the Head of State said.
As noted, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian army has been trying to block Ukrainian cities, and the occupiers organized a real hell in the city of Mariupol.
“They blocked it from both land and sea. Constantly bombed. More than 90 percent of all buildings were destroyed there. Before the war, by the way, it was a city of half a million. It was artificially starved. The Russian army has blocked the delivery of any food, drinking water or medicine,” the President stressed.

“The US assesses that Vladimir Putin has not achieved any of his strategic goals so far in the Donbas or in Ukraine, and that his focus remains on the Donbas," the official said.

In order to change Russians' perception of military ‘invincibility’ and to prepare society for a possible defeat, the Russian media have been ordered to talk about the Russian-Ukrainian war as an armed confrontation between Russia and all European Union and NATO countries. 10:20 UK Defence Intelligence sreaded the last update on the situation in Ukraine - 10 May 2022
According to the UK Defence Intelligence, Russia's underestimation of Ukrainian resistance and its 'best case scenario' planning have led to demonstrable operational failings, preventing President Putin from announcing significant military success in Ukraine at the 09 May Victory Day parade.
Russia's invasion plan is highly likely to have been based on the mistaken assumption that it would encounter limited resistance and would be able to encircle and bypass population centres rapidly.
This assumption led Russian forces to attempt to carry out the opening phase of the operation with a light, precise approach intended to achieve a rapid victory with minimal cost.
This miscalculation led to unsustainable losses and a subsequent reduction in Russia's operational focus.
