Ukraine continues to expand the capabilities of its domestic defense industry, and public sources have begun reporting on the number of 2H22 Bohdana-BG 155mm towed howitzers delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine this year

The 2H22 Bohdana-BG howitzers are actively being supplied to Ukrainian Defense Forces units, with reports suggesting that as many as five separate batches may have been delivered already in 2025.

On July 4, 2025, the Defense Procurement Agency announced the delivery of another batch of Bohdana towed howitzers to the front. While the exact details were not disclosed, the shipment likely included anywhere from a few units to around a dozen, based on patterns observed with the self-propelled variant.

In an interview with Channel 5 published the day before, Major General (Ret.) Ivan Lisovyi stated that five batches of Bohdana-BG howitzers had already been delivered in 2025. This suggests a high production tempo, likely in the range of 10 to 20 units per month, comparable to the self-propelled version.

According to Lisovyi, the first batch was delivered in January, followed by additional deliveries in February and March. While no shipments were mentioned for June, the pattern suggests monthly deliveries are ongoing.

The towed Bohdana variant has been upgraded to address shortcomings identified during the operation of the self-propelled system. This battlefield experience has informed refinements not only in the original model but also in its alternative configurations.

The Bohdana-BG was first observed in service in March 2025, following its initial public unveiling in October 2024. Currently, it uses a carriage inherited from the Soviet-era Giatsint-B, although development of a new, fully domestic carriage is underway in Ukraine.

Towed artillery production eliminates dependency on chassis supply chains and significantly reduces system costs. Such howitzers are also easier to conceal and can be better protected in fortified positions — an important factor in a conflict where mobility no longer guarantees survivability.

It is encouraging that Ukraine’s defense industry continues to scale up the production of diverse weapon systems while adapting them to evolving battlefield conditions. Support from international partners, financial and through the localization of production abroad, remains key to sustaining this progress.
