The 44th Separate Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been equipped with the latest version of domestically produced 2S22 Bohdana 155 mm self-propelled howitzer. This marks a significant step in Ukraine's efforts to modernize its artillery capabilities with NATO-standard equipment.
The Bohdana howitzer, developed by Ukraine's defense industry, features a 155 mm-caliber gun mounted on the wheeled chassis, providing enhanced mobility and rapid deployment. The latest iterations are equipped with semi-automatic loading systems and are mounted on the Tatra T815-7 chassis, offering improved performance and crew protection.

Significantly, the upgraded variant now includes several battlefield-oriented enhancements: a shell rammer for more efficient loading, additional protection in the form of anti-drone mesh screens, and even a designated mounting point inside the cabin for a small arms weapon, increasing the crew's defensive options in close-quarter situations.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine's defense industry has ramped up production to 20 units per month, reflecting the country's commitment to strengthening its military capabilities. The 2S22 Bohdana has already demonstrated its effectiveness in combat, notably contributing to operations such as the liberation of the Zmiinyi Island (aka Snake Island).

The integration of the Bohdana howitzer into the 44th Brigade enhances Ukraine's artillery firepower, enabling more precise and longer-range engagements against adversary targets. This development underscores Ukraine's ongoing efforts to bolster its defense infrastructure amid ongoing security challenges.
