Spain Beats U.S. Teams At First-Ever Drone Crew Competition Held in Germany

Germany hosted first-ever drone crew competition at U.S. Army initiative we explain the details

Spanish team proved to be the best in the first competition for the best unmanned aerial vehicle crew, which took place from December 8-10 this year at the Grafenwoehr training ground in Germany.

Competition under the official name Best Drone Warfighter Competition was held under the chairmanship and initiative of the 7th Army Training Command.

In total, 10 teams participated in the competition, mostly military personnel from U.S. Army units deployed in Europe, but there were also participants from Spain and Italy. Each group consisted of two to six military personnel who used both classic reconnaissance and FPV drones.

As stated in the official U.S. Army press release, during the three-day competition, teams literally took a written exam, as well as participated in two training scenarios.

The first involved completing a task in urban conditions, the second in a conditional landing, where the accuracy and maneuverability of FPV drone operators were tested.

Interestingly, in the competition, teams used both already available weapons samples and self-assembled drones including modifications.

Among everything, these are such unmanned aircraft as Skydio x2d, ORQA FPV, DJI Mavic, DJI Avata, and Vantage Vesper.

First place in this competition was taken by a team from Spain, namely fighters from the 10th Millán Astray Battalion.
