The Mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, in his announcement that after a brief lull, the russian occupying forces resumed terrorist attacks on the city, noted that during the shelling on the evening of August 31, the russian terrorists used for the first time a hybrid of a cruise missile and an unguided aerial bomb, known as Grom-E1.
The use of this weapon in general on the territory of Ukraine was recorded for the first time last year. In particular, in March 2023, images of the remains of Grom-E1, which fell "somewhere in the field", appeared. This was actually one of the first evidences of the use of this hybrid bomb by the russian federation.

The use of Grom-E1 by russian troops was also recorded during 2024, but in general it is about isolated cases. In these cases, primarily, we are talking about terrorist attacks on civilian objects - on a school and a five-story building in Myrnograd, as well as in Kherson in February-March of this year.
We will remind that the russians first presented the Grom in 2015 at the MAKS air show, and we are talking about two variants – the Grom-E1 with a jet engine and the Grom-E2 with an additional warhead. Defense Express already told more about this "rocket-bomb" in one of its materials last year.
We will remind that in the Grom-E1 version, this hybrid of cruise missile and unguided aerial bomb has a starting mass of 594 kg, the mass of the high-explosive warhead is 315 kg. The maximum declared launch range is 120 km at an altitude of 12,000 m, respectively, at an altitude of 5,000 m, the range decreases to approximately 35 km.
As of today, there is no evidence that the russian federation is actively using its Grom-E1 missile-bomb to attack Ukraine, and since February 2022, only rare cases of the use of this weapon have been recorded.
