President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that russia is continuing efforts to draw Belarus more deeply into the war against Ukraine, including discussions about possible new offensive operations launched from Belarusian territory. The statement came on May 15 amid growing concerns in Kyiv about renewed military pressure along Ukraine's northern borders.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian intelligence has recorded additional contacts between russian officials and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Kyiv believes Moscow is attempting to persuade Minsk to take a more direct role in future military actions linked to russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president said russia is considering operational plans both southward and northward from Belarusian territory. One scenario reportedly involves renewed pressure on the Chernihiv and Kyiv directions, reviving fears of threats similar to those seen during the opening phase of the full-scale invasion in 2022.
Another possibility outlined by Volodymyr Zelenskyy involves the use of Belarusian territory for operations targeting a NATO member state. Although no specific country was named, the remark underscores wider regional security concerns and highlights the strategic importance Belarus continues to hold for Moscow.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine possesses detailed information regarding discussions between russia and Belarus. While he did not disclose intelligence specifics, the statement signals that Kyiv is closely monitoring military and political coordination between the two allies and is preparing for possible escalation along the northern frontier.
The Ukrainian president also issued a direct warning to Alexander Lukashenko, stating that Ukraine would defend itself and its citizens if Belarus chooses to support new russian aggressive actions. The message reflects Kyiv's attempt both to deter Minsk from deeper involvement and to publicly signal readiness for any scenario.
In response to the reported threat, Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Ukrainian forces to strengthen the relevant operational direction and prepare a response plan. The proposal is expected to be reviewed and approved during an upcoming meeting.
