The Wolfram launcher may soon also appear in a new modification - on the chassis of the Boxer wheeled armored vehicle

Currently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine may have several dozen Wolfram mobile launchers designed to launch British Brimstone ground attack missiles developed by MBDA UK. These launchers are based on the Supacat high mobility vehicle, that has a 3-axle chassis.

It is now standard weaponry for the British military with possible export orders pending and several dozen of the vehicles already in Ukraine.

Although in this case we are talking about an improvised development, created from improvised elements (chassis, launcher and civilian power generator), the Wolfram missile launcher has also become a standard weaponry for the British military. It is also quite possible that export orders may soon come for such a weapon system. This is stated in the publication of The Independent.

This news is important, as there was no information until now that Brimstone missiles at the disposal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can already be fired from a specialized launcher. It was believed that for the launch of such missiles, improvised launchers, created by hand on the basis of the Gazelle light commercial vehicle (LCV), are used.

But it is interesting that the data about the very fact of the development of a specialized installation for Brimstone as part of the Wolfram project was publicly available as early as September 2022. For example, as the Army Technology already clarified at the time, the Supacat HMT 600 high mobility vehicle was used as a platform as well as a standard eight-pack Brimstone launcher by MBDA was used to launch the Brimstone missiles themselves.

There was no guidance equipment on the vehicle itself, because it is not required by the characteristics of the Brimstone missile, which is equipped with a millimeter range homing radar head. The firing range from such an installation is up to 25 kilometers.

At the same time, the authors of Army Technology assume that such a development within the framework of the Wolfram project can receive its modification - on the chassis of the Boxer wheeled armored vehicle. This can be facilitated by the fact that the Brimstone with a cumulative warhead weight of 6.3 kg can be a universal tool on the battlefield, in particular for destroying enemy tanks. The versatility of the missile gives such a weapon the appropriate flexibility in performing various tasks that arise on the modern battlefield.
