Baltimor air base serves as the permanent home of the 47th Aviation Regiment of the so-called russian Aerospace Forces. In addition, another strike reportedly targeted an aircraft repair facility in Taganrog. russian officials acknowledged the attacks and claimed that air defenses intercepted only one missile.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces launched the strike on the morning of May 27 against the Baltimor air base in Voronezh, located approximately 170 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Videos published online by local residents showed fire and smoke rising from the area after the attack by still unidentified long-range strike systems.
Using footage from multiple angles, OSINT communities were able to identify the target with considerable confidence as the Baltimor air base itself, particularly facilities in its northern section.
The affected area reportedly includes the base’s technical maintenance and servicing complex, where aircraft repairs and maintenance are carried out, as well as nearby aircraft parking zones.

Most importantly, Baltimor hosts the 47th Aviation Regiment equipped with Su-34 frontline bombers. These aircraft are currently among the primary carriers used by russian forces for launching glide aerial bombs against Ukraine.
The exact consequences of the strike remain unclear, as do the weapons used in the attack. However, systematic long-range strikes of this kind are considered one of the few effective ways to reduce the operational tempo of russian tactical aviation by forcing aircraft to relocate farther from the front line and beyond the reach of Ukrainian strike systems.

The farther russian aircraft are based from the battlefield, the fewer sorties they can conduct daily. More flight time and engine life must also be spent simply reaching weapon release points.
Ukraine also reportedly struck an aviation enterprise in Taganrog earlier the same morning.
Based on photos and videos from the scene, the target appears to have been the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant, which specializes in the overhaul and repair of Il-76, Su-25, and Antonov aircraft.
Local authorities acknowledged the strike and stated that missile weapons had been used. Even according to official russian claims, air defenses managed to intercept only one missile out of an unspecified total number launched. russian officials also confirmed casualties resulting from the attack.
