The Ukrainian military carried out an operation using naval drones to hit russian tankers

Ukrainian forces struck two oil tankers belonging to russia's shadow fleet. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Sunday, May 3, and posted a video of the attack on the vessels.

The footage shows a naval drone approaching the hull of a russian ship. According to Zelenskyy, the vessel was anchored at the entrance to the port of Novorossiysk, located in russia's Krasnodar Krai.

"Our troops are continuing to impose sanctions on russia's shadow oil fleet. They struck two vessels in waters leading to the port of Novorossiysk. These tankers were actively used to transport oil. That will no longer happen," Zelenskyy stated.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not specify which ships were struck by Ukrainian drones or when exactly this occurred. He thanked the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov, the SSU's counterintelligence department, and the Ukrainian Navy.

russian authorities have not commented on the attack on the sanctioned ships near Novorossiysk. The extent of the damage to the tankers has not yet been determined.
