Operators from the Northern Eagle Battalion struck one of russia's newest wheeled self-propelled guns

Operators of the Northern Eagle Unmanned Systems Battalion from Ukraine's 151st Brigade have successfully struck a rare and relatively new russian Malva 2S43 artillery system. Footage of the combat operation was released on May 1 via the brigade's official communication channels, offering a glimpse into the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian drone units on the battlefield.

The Malva 2S43 is a modern self-propelled artillery system developed by russia, combining a Soviet-era Msta 2A64 152 mm howitzer with a newly designed wheeled chassis. This configuration is intended to improve mobility and reduce production complexity compared to tracked artillery systems, reflecting a shift toward more flexible artillery platforms.

Despite being a newer addition to russia's arsenal, Malva system remains a relatively rare asset on the battlefield. Its limited numbers make any confirmed strike against it notable, particularly as such systems are typically deployed to enhance long-range fire support capabilities.

According to available specifications, Malva system can engage targets at distances of up to 24.5 kilometers, placing it within the category of medium-range artillery systems. This allows it to support frontline units while operating from positions that are relatively distant from direct engagement zones.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian forces have carried out a new wave of coordinated strikes targeting both military and economic infrastructure across temporarily territory and deep inside russia itself. The operation, conducted overnight on May 1, was aimed at reducing the aggressor's military and industrial capacity to sustain the war.
