The novel anti-aircraft tool has received more capabilities against russian reconnaissance aerial vehicles

Ukrainian anti-aircraft FPV drones, already a highly efficient weapon judging by the previous kill count, are being constantly upgraded for even better performance in downing reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles.

The new capabilities acquired through such upgrades are clear in the video published by Ukrainian activist and volunteer Serhii Sternenko, it shows a Supercam drone takedown performed by FPV operators from the SIGNUM unit of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade AFU.

Unlike many other similar videos online, this episode took place "quite deep behind the enemy's rear," Sternenko notes. No additional details were disclosed for security reasons.

This instance highlights an important vector of proactive development of anti-aircraft FPV drones: operational range. Improving the distance it can travel can also broaden the utility of this air defense tool and gain traction across the frontline, scaling up demand and thus, production.

For a reminder, earlier Ukraine's 93rd Mechanized Brigade told about its innovative approach to anti-drone warfare, shifting from AA guns to more flexible AA FPV drones allowing them to take down enemy UAVs at higher altitudes. After all, russian drones usually don't fly lower than 2,500 meters above the ground.

In addition to the operating altitude and range, anti-aircraft FPV drones offer speed. Last fall, the Wild Hornets drone workshop managed to accelerate its FPV drone to an impressive speed of 325 km/h.

Earlier, Defense Express also covered how Ukrainian FPV drones armed with shotguns shoot down russian UAVs — an unconventional yet seemingly effective way to intercept enemy aerial reconnaissance.
