That is according to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny.
"The enemy attacked the territory of Ukraine with sea-launched and air-launched cruise missiles. Around 22:00 on May 8, the enemy launched eight Kalibr cruise missiles from carriers in the Black Sea, targeting the eastern regions of the country. All eight were destroyed by the air defense forces and means of the Air Command ‘East’," Valeriy Zaluzhny posted on his official page on Facebook.

According to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, around 04:00 on May 9, the invaders fired 17 Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles from strategic aircraft – four Tu-95ms (Caspian Sea area).
"The air defense forces and means of the Air Command ‘Center’ destroyed 14 cruise missiles, one more [was downed] in the area of responsibility of the Air Command ‘South’. A total of 15 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles were destroyed," Valeriy Zaluzhny reported.
In total, during two waves of attacks on Ukraine on the night of May 8-9, 2023, the Russian occupiers launched 25 Kalibr and Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
Twenty-three of them were destroyed by the air defense units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with the components of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
In its turn Ukraine’s Air Force Command clarified the sequence russia used to strike Ukraine. According to official statement by the Command on its official page on Facebook?, At around 10 p.m. local time on May 8, Russian forces fired eight Kalibr cruise missiles from warships in the Black Sea, which were targeted at the eastern regions of the country, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
All eight missiles were destroyed by the air defense forces together with the units of Eastern Air Command.
At approximately around 4:00 a.m. on May 9, Russia launched seventeen X-101/X-555 cruise missiles using strategic Tu-95 aircraft from the Caspian Sea region. Ukraine's air defense destroyed 15 of those missiles.
According to preliminary information, shared by Serhiy Popko, Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, about 15 enemy air targets were detected and destroyed in the airspace around Kyiv at night.
"The fifth air attack on Kyiv since the beginning of May! With the utmost density and power of the attack precisely on May 9!" Serhiy Popko, posted on Telegram this morning.
He noted that the day of the end of World War II became a sacred date for the Russians so they try to kill as many civilians as possible on this day.
Remains of an enemy missile were discovered on the territory of a settlement in one of the districts of the Kyiv region. There are partial destructions of civil infrastructure.

Earlier, on the night of May 4, 2023, russia attacked Ukraine from the northern direction (Bryansk region) and from the south (the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov) using the Shahed-136/131 drones.
