russian forces have introduced a new and alarming tactic in their ongoing attacks on Ukraine's Sumy region. According to Serhii Flash, russian troops have begun attaching two containers filled with anti-tank mines under the wings of the Shahed-type kamikaze drones. Several such cases were recorded over the past day, signaling a dangerous escalation in the use of modified loitering munitions against both military and civilian targets.
Instead of relying solely on the Shahed drone's explosive payload, russian units are effectively turning the drones into aerial mine dispersal systems.

When dropped from the air, these anti-tank mines can remain active for a period before self-detonating, posing an extended threat to anyone in the area, especially first responders, farmers, or local residents.
People are urged not to approach or touch any suspicious objects, particularly metal containers that could resemble mines or drone debris. Driving near or walking close to such objects is strictly discouraged, as the mines may detonate automatically after a set time.

The use of mines delivered by drones is not new in modern warfare, but its application through Iranian-designed Shahed drones represents a particularly insidious adaptation. By combining loitering munitions with anti-vehicle mines, russia seeks to increase the area of potential destruction and complicate post-strike cleanup operations. This approach effectively transforms what would typically be a one-time explosive strike into a lingering hazard.

A Defense Express previously reported, russia has begun using drones to scatter explosive devices over Ukrainian territory, posing a new and unpredictable threat to civilians across the country. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, these drones are capable of operating in any region, with the first confirmed findings reported in Kyiv.
