Ukraine's Defense Intelligence staged the death of the Russian Volunteer Corps commander in a multi-stage operation that uncovered a hostile agent network

Ukraine's Defense Intelligence has revealed details of a complex, multi-stage special operation designed to save the life of the commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, who operates as part of the Tymur Special Unit. The operation also led to the exposure of an enemy agent network linked to russian intelligence services.

Ukrainian intelligence officers deliberately staged the commander's death as part of a sophisticated deception campaign. The goal was twofold: to protect the targeted individual from assassination and to identify and neutralize those behind the plot within russian special services.

To maintain the credibility of the cover story, Ukrainian intelligence produced staged combat footage involving two strike drones. As described by the Defense Intelligence, the first drone was shown hitting a minibus in which Denis Kapustin was allegedly traveling, while a second drone recorded the supposed aftermath of the strike, including a burning vehicle.

The fabricated video was designed to closely mimic real battlefield footage, leveraging the visual language and technical characteristics commonly associated with drone strikes. This level of realism proved decisive, as russian intelligence services reportedly accepted the footage as authentic evidence of the successful assassination.

The organizers of the assassination within russian special services believed the operation had succeeded and proceeded to pay the full fee for the "completed" task. The amount transferred, approximately $500,000, was received by Ukrainian intelligence operatives.

Rather than achieving its intended purpose, the funds allocated by russia to eliminate the commander were instead redirected to strengthen Ukraine's special operations capabilities. The Defense Intelligence noted that the money would significantly enhance the combat effectiveness of its special-purpose units.
