Reports have emerged that China is ramping up production of the Type 19, having produced around 1,000 of them in February alone, and has released a video showing a large convoy of these IFVs

Reports circulating on social media suggest that Chinese defense giant Norinco Corporation is rapidly expanding production of Type 19 armored personnel carriers to meet the needs of the People's Liberation Army. By February 2026, it had reportedly produced 1,000 such armored vehicles, which is an incredible number.

This post was first shared by the X account China Pulse, which actively promotes pro-China narratives. Without verifying this information, it was later picked up by the russian outlet RT and spread further from there.

However, earlier reports published before China Pulse's post indicate that China actually produced around 100 Type 19 units in February, not 1,000 IFVs.

That appears to be more accurate. This tenfold exaggeration likely stemmed from an error or a clumsy attempt to inflate China's actual capabilities. Nevertheless, 100 Type 19s per month is still a very large number, exceeding the current production volumes of any Western country.

A video showing a large convoy of Type 19 vehicles, likely transported from the manufacturer’s plant, is also circulating widely online. It is currently impossible to determine the exact number of IFVs in this shipment, but there are likely to be around 100 units.

back in 2025, it was reported that China had begun mass production of the ZTL-19 amphibious vehicles, which are based on the Type 19 chassis. In other words, Norinco is simultaneously producing not only IFVs but also their chassis for the mass production of other combat vehicles.

If the report that 100 Type 19 units are being produced per month is accurate, then Norinco is capable of manufacturing significantly more chassis. These are massive numbers, indicating an active rearmament and expansion of the People's Liberation Army.

The Type 19 was first spotted in 2023. It is armed with an unmanned combat module featuring a 30-mm automatic cannon, a launcher for four HJ-16 anti-tank guided missiles, and a 5.8-mm machine gun. The level of armor is undisclosed, and the vehicle is powered by a 440-horsepower diesel engine.
