The war in Ukraine showed whether russia has modern weapons, and at the same time the fact that the russian military commanders who took funds for rearmament probably took them for themselves. Even russian propagandists are thinking about it

Back in 2021, russian Defense Minister Serhii Shoigu stated that the Russian armed forces have "more than 70%, and to be more precise, almost 71% of modern weapons and equipment" and boasted that this is "the highest percentage among all armies in the world." .

However, even russian propaganda resources question such records, given that Shoigu was talking about "modern" equipment, and not just new models - reality has shown that in the tenth month of a full-scale war with Ukraine, the Russians are forced to retrieve from storage bases, for example, "Stalin-era" D-1 howitzers.

If we talk about artillery in general, from the "modern" self-propelled guns that are in service with the Russian army, we can single out only the modernized 2С19М2 "Msta-S" self-propelled howitzers, of which the Russian military had about 320, and taking into account the losses, there are currently about 300 left. This is approximately no more than 15% of the artillery systems in service.

As for other artillery and MLRS, the occupiers admit that the russian army does not have any samples that could be called "modern". The same is the case with light armored vehicles and anti-tank systems.

Speaking of modern tanks, the occupiers note the presence of relatively new T-80BVM and T-90M tanks - according to Military Balance 170 and 67 (according to other data - 220 and 117) units, respectively, which is no more than 10% of the total number of tanks in Russian army.

In air defense, the occupiers also do not see any positive aspects, noting first of all the "sad" situation with the radar, as well as the fact that the anti-aircraft missile component is based on the "Soviet" base - modernized S-300, "Buk" and "Tor" SAMs, but in in the case of the last two, their number is a modest 20%.

The situation with aviation is the best for the occupiers. However, a real fifth-generation aircraft was never created in the russian federation. In general, it is noted that the fighter aviation can have up to 50% of new aircraft, highlighting the Su-30 and Su-35, while the bomber aviation has only 24% of modern aircraft, such as the Su-34u. It is also noted that the russian transport aviation is a "kingdom Soviet times".

Even the fate of new weapons in the armed forces of the russian federation given by russian propagandists is quite overestimated, but even they show that the money allocated in the russian federation for updating weapons and military equipment was not used effectively and could simply be stolen.

The occupiers had "one of the best armies in the world" on paper, but in fact it turned out that due to catastrophic losses in battles in Ukraine, the russians were forced to throw old T-62M tanks into battle and go to storage bases to pick up Soviet artillery systems...
