Army's corporate contract with Anduril streamlines counter-UAS procurement through 2036, replacing 120 separate transactions with unified platform

The U.S. Army concluded a new corporate contract with American defense company Anduril, which should optimize cooperation with this defense contractor, reduce administrative costs, and maximally accelerate implementation of critically necessary capabilities both for American military and other interested parties.

On March 13, the U.S. defense department released information about concluding a $20 billion fixed-price contract with Anduril for consolidating existing and future commercial solutions, including the proprietary Lattice software package with open architecture and AI [artificial intelligence] support, integrated equipment, data, computer infrastructure and technical support services into a single, mission-ready system supporting Army's constantly changing operational and business needs. Execution term is 10 years, until March 12, 2036.

At the same time, as explained in the U.S. Army press release, the agreement is divided into two conditional periods: first baseline of five years, plus an additional period also of five years. Additionally, the announced cost is the maximum possible sum Anduril may receive, not obligations undertaken.

The agreement primarily envisions simplifying the approach to working with Anduril in software and other services direction, as currently the American defense department manages over 120 separate procurement operations regarding this defense contractor’s commercial solutions, while the announced agreement should unite them all into one structure.

Although this involves a huge work direction, General Matt Roths, head of Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (operational unit responsible for rapid transfer of critical technologies), emphasized the contract is a critically important step in creating a common framework for interaction in combating unmanned aerial vehicles, as it provides baseline command and control capabilities.

Previously we reported that Anduril won an important contract for itself to create new C2 system replacing FAAD C2 from Northrop Grumman.

According to the official website, Lattice is a software platform ensuring weapons systems operation and integrating with third-party manufacturer and government systems to create a large network of sensors and various other devices.

Lattice has a range of different subsystems, for example command and control C2 with artificial intelligence integration for accelerating battlefield decision-making, while software for autonomous missions ensures operation of unmanned system groups of various types — maritime, ground and air. Lattice Mesh as decentralized network technology ensures secure data distribution between services, domains and platforms over large distances.

Recall that Anduril has in its portfolio a range of different weapons samples also used in Ukraine. Additionally, Anduril is one of the developers of relatively cheap modern strike assets like Barracuda cruise missiles.

Previously, Defense Express reported Ukraine may have received newest Bolt-M FPV drone from Anduril, which U.S. Marines purchased.
