Let’s find out how good are these russian armored vehicles

Ukrainian military have found another abandoned piece of russian equipment – a KamAZ-5350-379 truck with an MM-501 armored capsule, Strategic Communications of AFU reports.

Three to four damaged vehicles were found in total, the soldier says in the video below. But the armor seems to be alright and is still good to go and serve the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As noted, both the cabin and the capsule have the 5th level of protection. According to russian military standard, it is almost the highest one of six, and can effectively withstand close fire of any firearm up to 7.62x54 caliber from any direction with velocity of up to 740 m/s (steel core munition) or 840 m/s (light ball steel core).

To put it simply, it can protect from most of the rifles of Soviet design, such as SVD "Dragunov" sniper guns and AKM automatic guns, widely used by Ukrainian troops. At the same time, they give no guarantee against some latest types of ammunition.

According to russian media, it also provides protection from mine fragments and hand grenades. The capsule is designed to carry troops in temperatures from –50 to +50 °C and is equipped with life support systems (air conditioning, heating, ventilation, lighting) powered by the chassis or an "external source".

In summary, we have a multipurpose vehicle for carrying a 14-soldier squad, once again overhyped by russians, which is nevertheless vulnerable to modern weapons, such as Western M2 Browning machine guns or T-Rex anti-materiel rifles. But in the hands of Ukrainians, it is another story, since russians don’t have a steady supply of military equipment and are forced to rely on Soviet-era relics.
