Ukrainian precision strike eliminated the 91N6E radar, leaving one of russia's most advanced air defense systems blind

On the night of August 28, 2025, special operations units from the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine struck a high-value russian target in temporarily occupied Crimea, the 91N6E radar system, part of the S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system.

The radar, which serves as the "eyes" of the S-400 system, plays a crucial role in detecting aerial threats and guiding missiles against aircraft, drones, and ballistic targets. Its destruction severely undermines the effectiveness of the system and leaves a critical gap in russia's air defense network over Crimea.

According to Ukrainian intelligence sources, the precision strike was carried out by the Department of Active Operations. This elite unit has repeatedly targeted russian strategic assets in temporarily occupied territories, focusing on expensive and difficult-to-replace equipment.

The loss of the 91N6E radar is particularly painful for Moscow, as the S-400 system has long been portrayed as one of russia's most advanced air defense assets. Without its radar, the Triumf system becomes virtually blind, unable to function as intended.

The strike also highlights Ukraine's ongoing campaign to systematically demilitarize Crimea. In recent months, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly targeted air defense systems, military bases, and logistical infrastructure on the peninsula, aiming to erode russia's control and make its military presence unsustainable.

As Defense Express previously reported, in less than a week, Ukraine's Security Service forces from the A Center for Special Operations dealt a devastating blow to russian air defense and electronic warfare capabilities. In just four days, they managed to disable 17 enemy systems.

According to the Security Service, the destroyed equipment is valued at over $250 million on russia's domestic market. For export, the price would be 2.5 times higher, making these losses even more significant for the aggressor.
