Lighter materials make the 2B14 mortars more maneuverable

Rostec, russian state corporation, has delivered a batch of the 2B14 82 mm light mortars to the russian Ground Forces. According to the company, these weapons have undergone upgrades that specifically enhance the mobility of mortar crews and the accuracy of their fire.

Developed and manufactured in the Soviet Union, the 2B14 82 mm light mortars provide indirect fire support for infantry and airborne units. Despite their long service life, these mortars are still in production, with many kept in storage.

Rostec confirmed that the mortars’ design has been improved, utilizing more modern materials to reduce the weapon’s weight. This reduction enhances mobility, making the mortars more suitable for use in difficult terrains such as forests and mountains.

Additionally, the base plate, a critical component that absorbs the recoil impulse and maintains weapon stability, has been upgraded. The improved design reportedly allows it to fit more closely to the ground, further enhancing stability.
