A look at the next generation of the howitzer that became renown even before entering mass production, and first reviews from Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline

September 2023 the upgraded version of the 2S22 Bohdana self-propelled artillery system has reached the frontline and first feedback from the soldiers fighting on the frontlines of the russo-Ukrainian war. In caliber 155mm, it was hailed as a maneuverable and highly automated system with great accuracy and even suggested there would be an automatic loading mechanism.

The other day, the National Association of Ukrainian Defense Industries (NAUDI) decided to reveal the full specifications of this howitzer in the newest version of the 8x8 Tatra chassis, along with a video with some footage of this vehicle in action.

"Speaking about the quality of the self-propelled artillery system, the soldiers point out its high accuracy and good maximum range of fire. The [Ukrainian] Defense Forces also note a high level of cabin protection, which protects artillerymen from bullets and fragmentation shards," NAUDI press service writes.

The Association reminds that the developer of the 2S22 Bohdana is the PJSC Kramatorsk Heavy Duty Machine Tool Building Plant, part of NAUDI, it produces the main components of the artillery unit of this system, including the barrel.

At the same time, the chassis is provided by Czech Tatra in this version. Additionally, it gets reinforced with anti-bullet/anti-fragmentation cabin protection from LLC Ukrainian Armor.

Notably, Ukrainian Armor's CEO Vladyslav Belbas mentioned during the Security Talks program at Apostrophe TV that 2S22 Bohdana nowadays is produced in several variants simultaneously, so they can enter service with the Ukrainian Army as quickly as possible.
