Military engineers of russia deploy anti-drone nets that entirely cover open-air sections of the road along critical supply routes in Ukraine. The ongoing effort to create a "road of life" is depicted in a video published by a Kremlin-backed media outlet.
As told by a sapper team commander from the 3rd Army Corps of the russian invasion forces, his unit was entrusted with an over 2-kilometer stretch of road between the towns of Bakhmut and Chasiv Yar.

"[We are] constantly improving the technology. The nets are [installed] on the most open sections of the roads to ensure the safety of our equipment on the move. We are continuously trying to increase the coverage area, we improve the net installation technology to do it all faster," he said.
The general scale of the project cannot be surmised from the materials available but if it proves effective, similar ad hoc tunnels may appear elsewhere across the frontline and eventually unite in a single network.
Despite the grandiose impression, making such protective structures is actually a relatively cheap way to protect from bomber drones armed with grenades and IEDs as well as FPV drones, especially those operated via a fiber-optic cable which are immune to electromagnetic suppression.
Even though the net cannot guarantee 100% success in preventing a well-executed strike, it may prove a good investment in the long run by forcing Ukrainians to expend more kamikaze drones per target.
Earlier Defense Express described one more improvised C-UAS solution russians had recently introduced to the warzone: traffic lights equipped with drone detectors to signal a drone's proximity and the potential threat.
