Ukrainian Special Operations Forces and naval units have conducted a coordinated strike against russian positions in the Black Sea, targeting infrastructure used by russian forces on an offshore platform. The operation took place overnight on March 5, 2026, and focused on assets located at the Holitsynske gas field.
According to the report, the strike was carried out by the Middle Strike unit of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with units of the Ukrainian Navy. The attack targeted the self-elevating drilling platform known as Syvash rig, which had reportedly been used by russian forces for military purposes.

Ukrainian forces struck several key elements of the russian presence on the platform. Among the targets were a radar system installed on the structure as well as enemy firing positions deployed in the surrounding area.
The platform is located at the Holitsynske gas field in the Black Sea, an offshore energy site that has previously been used by russian forces to support surveillance and military operations in the maritime domain. Such installations can serve as forward observation points, radar stations, or staging positions for weapons systems.
By targeting the radar equipment and firing positions, Ukrainian forces likely sought to degrade russian situational awareness and reduce their ability to monitor and control activity in that sector of the Black Sea. Offshore platforms have been repeatedly repurposed during the war to host sensors and defensive systems.
As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian border guard drone operators have destroyed russian heavy flamethrower system during combat operations on the Huliaipole axis in Zaporizhzhia region. The strike targeted the TOS-1A Solntsepyok system, a thermobaric rocket launcher designed to deliver devastating area attacks against infantry and fortifications.
