Denmark has officially placed an order for the supply of the SAMP/T NG SAM systems. It took the parties about six months to resolve all the nuances after this SAM system was chosen by the Danes in September last year, beating the American Patriot SAM System – primarily due to shorter delivery times

Denmark became the first foreign customer of the SAMP/T NG, which gave rise to thoughts about how this will affect the supply of this SAM system to Ukraine and whether there are options to get this system sooner. As part of the Danish contract, the export price of the SAMP/T NG SAM system was disclosed for the first time, which allows us to at least roughly calculate how much the eight systems that are to be ordered for Ukraine may cost.

Denmark has signed a contract worth 1.47 billion euro, for which the country is to receive four SAMP/T NG SAM systems. The configuration of the system itself is not disclosed, but for Western countries it is typical to use the designation fire unit, the composition of which may depend not only on the type of system, but may also vary when using systems of the same type – depending on the wishes of the customer.

The composition of the fire unit may vary. For example, in the case of France, the fire unit includes six launchers together with the Ground Fire 300 radar, while in Italy the fire unit consists of four launchers with the Kronos GM HP radar.
It should be noted that at present, the composition of the SAMP/T NG for Denmark has not been disclosed. At the same time, the cost of four systems is known at one and a half billion euros - this cost also includes an unspecified number of missiles, training and maintenance.
It should be noted that in general this is a fairly competitive price on the modern market with the average cost for one SAM system of a similar class at 375 million euros, including a certain number of missiles and related services.
The SAMP/T NG air defense system, compared to the same Patriot, has a critical advantage in terms of delivery to the customer. In addition, given the small number of the system’s operators, there is a certain advantage in the number of missiles available for delivery (although their production rates must also be taken into account).

If we talk about 8 SAMP/T NG systems for Ukraine, then considering the price for Denmark, it is worth focusing on the amount of 3 billion euro. Most likely, the purchase of these systems will be paid for by a loan from the EU for 90 billion euro.
Previously Defense Express tried to answer question if Ukraine had a chance of receiving SAMP/T NG earlier after Denmark joined the delivery queue.
