Drone operators from Ukraine's Phoenix border guard unit destroyed russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok heavy flamethrower system shortly after it fired a rocket on the Huliaipole axis

Ukrainian border guard drone operators have destroyed russian heavy flamethrower system during combat operations on the Huliaipole axis in Zaporizhzhia region. The strike targeted the TOS-1A Solntsepyok system, a thermobaric rocket launcher designed to deliver devastating area attacks against infantry and fortifications.

Footage of the engagement was released on March 5 by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The video shows the moment russian forces deployed the system to a firing position before it was detected and struck by Ukrainian drone operators from the Phoenix unit.

According to the report, russian troops managed to fire a single rocket from the TOS-1A system before the system was destroyed. Ukrainian drone subsequently struck the launcher, eliminating the vehicle before it could conduct additional salvos.

TOS-1A Solntsepyok system is one of the most destructive systems used by russian ground forces. Mounted on a tank chassis, it launches thermobaric rockets capable of producing high-temperature blast waves over a wide area, making it particularly dangerous in assaults on fortified positions or urban environments.

Beyond the destruction of the flamethrower system, Ukrainian operators also struck several other russian assets in the same area. The drone unit reportedly hit multiple armored vehicles as well as a self-propelled artillery system, further degrading russian firepower along the frontline.

Special attention during the operation was given to disrupting russian logistics. Several enemy passenger vehicles and military trucks were destroyed, with video showing vehicles engulfed in flames after drone strikes.

In one of the destroyed trucks, Ukrainian forces reportedly eliminated nine russian soldiers at the moment of impact. Such strikes against troop transport and supply vehicles can significantly disrupt the movement of personnel and ammunition near the front.

As Defense Express previously reported, pilots of the Omega 3rd Detachment have struck 11 russian artillery systems at ranges of up to 65 kilometers, demonstrating the growing reach and precision of Ukraine's unmanned strike capabilities. Footage of the operation was released on March 4 via the unit's official channel, showcasing a series of long-range engagements deep behind enemy lines.
