The Defense Intelligence of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine reported this on Saturday, June 28th.
As the intelligence agency noted, due to serious losses in the war against Ukraine, russia is forced to resort to mass decommissioning of obsolete combat vehicles.

In particular, due to the depletion of reserves of equipment from the 1970s, the russian command has begun an active return to operation of even older models, namely T-62 tanks.

The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) noted that the restoration of tanks is taking place on the basis of an armored repair plant located in the village of Atamanovka, Transbaikalia Krai, russia. The tanks are supplied to the front from warehouses of russia's Eastern Military District.
Ukrainian intelligence recorded the transfer of 21 T-62 tanks from the Eastern Military District to the European part of the russian federation on June 27. The DIU believes that the technical condition of most of these vehicles is unsatisfactory. In particular, the tanks were stored outdoors for decades without maintenance
“However, due to the acute shortage of modern main battle tanks, such as the T-90M and T-72B3M, the use of the T-62 is considered a temporary but forced solution,” the report said.

The T-62 tank was adopted by the Soviet armed forces in 1962. By the end of 2012, the russian army had more than 900 of these tanks. Some of them were later used in the war in Syria as well as in Ukraine.
As Defense Express reported, earlier in 2024 russian troops deploy modernized T-62M tanks in Northern Kharkiv Oblast. We also wrote, that russians pulled another batch of antique T-62 tanks to burn them in Ukraine.
