In the Kemerovo region of the russian federation, an echelon with old antique T-62M tanks equipped with so-called "BBQ grill grates" to protect against drones was spotted

This was reported by Ukrainian military journalist Andrii Tsaplienko on his Telegram channel.

This post is accompanied by a video in which the movement of a railway echelon loaded with T-62M tanks can be seen. At least 7 tanks can be seen in the video, but there is a high probability that this echelon can transport several dozen such tanks from Siberia to Ukraine.

The fact that the russians are restoring old T-62 type tanks to supply the troops may indicate a lack of more modern tanks for these purposes, such as, for example, the T-90, of which russia is currently able to produce no more than a couple of dozen per month. At the same time, the Ukrainian military destroy more than a hundred russian tanks of various types per month, while the total number of russian tanks destroyed in Ukraine is approaching 8,000 units.

It is known, thatn T-62M main battle tank has additional protection against drones in the form of anti-cumulative grids, as well as Kontakt-1reactive armour. Earlier, in May, 2024, russian social networks had published photos of T-62M tanks in Belgorod Oblast.

Defense Express notes that russia’s attempts to reactivate the T-62 became known in late March, 2022. Then the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released information that attempts were being made to remove this obsolete armored vehicles from storage. It’s clear, that best preserved T-62M units were taken first, which were shown to all inspections. But it also took one month to get them up and running.
