According to the Czechoslovak Group, Ukraine is producing large-caliber ammunition under a foreign license for the first time

The Czechoslovak Group (CSG) defense association has officially announced the launch of licensed production of 155 mm and 105 mm artillery ammunition in Ukraine at the facilities of Ukrainian Armor.

As CSG emphasizes, they have become "one of the first Western companies to successfully transfer the production of large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine," specifying that "the project is innovative for Ukraine, which is manufacturing large-caliber ammunition for the first time under a foreign license."

CSG, one of Europe's leading artillery ammunition manufacturers, helped launch production in Ukraine through a license and technology transfer, combined with the expertise of Ukrainian Armor.

It is noted that Ukraine is directly involved in the production of bodies, filling them with explosives, and final assembly. Currently, CSG supplies propellant charges, fuzes, and initiators. Overall, the level of localization of final production is currently around 50%, with a plan to reach 80% and transfer the production of initiators to Ukraine.

The initial production capacity is 100,000 155-mm shells and an additional 50,000 105-mm shells.

"CSG does not own any factory or production technology in Ukraine. All of this is managed by our partner, to whom we transferred the license and provided the necessary know-how, as they already had the required production technology and could start production relatively quickly," said Andrej Čírtek, CSG spokesperson.

"This cooperation is a significant step toward strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and diversifying its supply sources. Every single piece of ammunition produced is vital for the country's defense," said Vladyslav Belbas, CEO of Ukrainian Armor.

Among ongoing efforts to expand artillery ammunition production in Ukraine are licensed production with Norway's Nammo and a new Rheinmetall plant.
