Spain has become the leading provider of German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, delivering 29 Leopard 2A4 units.
This figure surpasses contributions from other countries, including Germany, which has provided 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks, and Poland, which delivered 14 Leopard 2A4 units. Denmark and the Netherlands have also donated a comparable number of tanks.

According to a report by Spanish defense outlet Infodefensa, Spain initially planned to deliver its second batch of 9 Leopard 2A4 tanks in September 2024. However, this shipment was delayed, and deliveries are only beginning in November. Despite this two-month delay, Spain’s total contribution underscores a notable shift: it now leads as the largest donor of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, rather than Germany, the manufacturer of these tanks.
Spain’s defense aid to Ukraine has significantly accelerated in 2024. As of now, Spain has delivered €600 million worth of defense aid, out of a total €1 billion pledged. This marks a substantial increase compared to the €190 million provided at the beginning of the year.
While Spain's contributions do not include long-range weapons capable of striking deep into russian territory, they play a crucial role in strengthening artillery, air defense, and mobility for Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
In early October, Spain announced the delivery of VAMTAC vehicles to Ukraine. These vehicles, which are modeled after the HMMWV, complement other Spanish aid, including the Zubr armored vehicle.
