The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been utilizing the VAMTAC armored vehicles for an extended period, supplied by Spain as part of its direct military aid to Ukraine.
This information was highlighted by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles during her visit to UROVESA, the manufacturer of these vehicles, located in the Galicia region of Spain, according to Infodefensa. However, specific details regarding the number of the VAMTAC vehicles delivered, future shipments, or delivery schedules remain undisclosed, in accordance with Spain’s Ministry of Defense’s information policy.

Despite this, available data offers insight into UROVESA’s production capabilities. With a workforce of just 300 employees, the company can produce up to 5,000 vehicles annually. The critical question remains how many of these vehicles are contracted for production each year. In 2023, UROVESA reported a turnover of 100 million euros and a profit of 1.5 million euros, with the VAMTAC vehicles serving as the company’s flagship product. The company also manufactures other civilian vehicles, including passenger cars and trucks.
In addition to Spain and Ukraine, the VAMTAC armored vehicles are in service in more than 10 countries globally. These vehicles are often compared to the HMMWV (Humvee) due to their visual resemblance. The VAMTAC has a total weight of 5.8 tons and can carry a payload of up to 2.5 tons.
