Ukrainian forces have regained control of Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region following a successful offensive operation conducted by the Artan unit of the Defense Intelligence, together with the 2nd Assault Battalion of the 3rd Assault Brigade.
According to intercepted communications, the operation caught russian troops by surprise. Enemy forces suffered heavy losses, with up to a company of personnel eliminated, forcing the russian command to divert reserves from other frontline sectors.

The attack was carried out with close coordination between intelligence units, assault infantry, heavy armored vehicles, and unmanned aerial systems. This combined-arms approach ensured that Ukrainian troops not only advanced but also consolidated their tactical gains in the area.
By retaking Novomykhailivka, Ukraine has improved its defensive posture along this sector of the Donetsk front. The settlement, previously a fortified russian position, will now serve as an additional stronghold in Ukraine's broader defense network.
Tactically, it disrupts russian logistics and weakens the enemy's hold on key approaches in Donetsk region. Symbolically, the return of the Ukrainian flag to the settlement underscores Kyiv's resilience and persistence in reclaiming occupied territories.
As of now, Novomykhailivka is fully cleared of russian forces and remains under firm Ukrainian control. The liberation reinforces Ukraine's message that despite ongoing challenges along the front, its forces remain capable of seizing the initiative and regaining lost ground.
As Defense Express previously reported, in the early hours of August 24, 2025, the Special Operations Forces, working in coordination with the Security Service of Ukraine, carried out a precision strike against the Ust-Luga marine terminal in russia's Leningrad region. The attack targeted a key installation used for fractionation and transshipment of gas condensate, a facility with an annual throughput capacity of up to 6.9 million tons.
