According to Mash, the aircraft crashed in the outskirts of Chelyabinsk, specifically in a forest located 500 meters away from the settlement of Prudny. Nearby, there is the M5 highway and the Shagol military airfield.

It is mentioned that the casualties include the commander, the co-pilot and the flight engineer. According to other sources, there were two cadets and a pilot-instructor on board.
