What is the contract under which India is to receive this ship, and how long has this story been going on for russia

In the Baltic Sea, russians are currently testing a Project 11356 frigate called Tamala. The ship was completed at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad and is scheduled to be delivered to the customer, India, this summer.

According to ZBiAM, relevant footage showing the testing of this frigate for the Indian Navy in the Baltic Sea has already been made public.

From Defense Express, we would like to remind that we are referring to the 2018 contract worth $1.2 billion, under which russia sold India two Project 11356 frigates originally intended for the russian Black Sea Fleet. However, their completion had to be "frozen" due to issues with obtaining engines.

The previous ship of this project, called Tushill, was handed over to Indian customers by russians in December 2024. The ceremony took place at the Yantar Shipyard.

It is not known where russians got the engines for the Project 11356 ships for India. Additionally, there is a question regarding the armament of these frigates, particularly the types of missiles that can be placed in the vertical launching system with eight cells.

The russian Black Sea Fleet now formally has three Project 11356 frigates, two of which are directly in the Black Sea and can be used for massive missile strikes against Ukraine.

In turn, the Indian Navy has seven such ships: in addition to the Tushil frigate, handed over in December 2024, the Indian Navy received three Project 11356 frigates in 2003-2004 and three more ships of the same design in 2012-2013.

It is also worth noting that, under the original terms of the contract, the first of the two Project 11356 frigates that russia was completing for India at the Yantar Shipyard was scheduled for delivery in 2023, with the second due in 2024. However, the contractual deadlines for both ships have been delayed by at least one year.
