Romania had such equipment in storage, and it could have strengthened the Defense Forces of Ukraine

According to open source information Romania is supplying the Defense Forces of Ukraine with its equipment and weapons, such as TAB-71 armored personnel carriers or APR-40 multiple rocket launchers. However, there has been no official confirmation of such deliveries so far.

However, according to Defense Romania, now official Bucharest has decided to disclose the general nomenclature of supplies that took place as part of military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Romanian Ambassador to the United States Andrei Muraru made the remarks before the meeting between President of Romania Klaus Iohannis and President of the United States Joseph Biden. The diplomat said that Romania supplied Ukraine not only with the aforementioned TAB-71 carriers or APR-40 multiple rocket launchers, but also howitzers, 122-mm and 152-mm shells, grenade launchers, DShK machine guns, and "many other things."

In this case, it should be emphasized that these were important supplies from Romania, which increased the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield. Romania provided weapons of the Warsaw Pact standard, that were easy to master. However, it can also be emphasized that the nomenclature of supplies to Ukraine did not include two important kind of weapons that were in storage in Romania at the beginning of February 2022. We are talking about T-72 main battle tanks and MiG-29 fighters.

Defense Express earlier described how Romania was able to afford such "luxuries" as T-72 tanks and MiG-29 aircraft exclusively in storage.

The Romanian Armed Forces decommissioned T-72 tanks in 2005. The reason is the lack of conditioned 125-mm shells and the Romanian military's peculiar understanding of NATO standards, which provide for the unification of the fleet of equipment and weapons. In this way, Romania took a "step back" and operated only T-55 main battle tank and its local copy TR-85 tank.

According to Defense Romania publisher, at that time, Romania could have up to 30 T-72 tanks in storage. 5 of them could be used as training vehicles and the rest as "spare parts donors."

The Romanian Air Force decommissioned its 18 MiG-29 aircraft in 2003. The reasons are the lack of weapons for them and the decision that it was inexpedient to carry out major repairs. As a result, the only one copy of the MiG-29 Sniper that was modernized in cooperation with Elbit Systems ended up in a museum.

Defense Romania reported that as of the end of March 2022, MiG-29 aircraft were officially in storage and could theoretically be transferred to Ukraine, although the actual status of these aircraft was not entirely clear.

All things considered, both options look equally likely. The first is that Romania actually had nothing to give to Ukraine in terms of T-72 tanks and MiG-29 aircraft. The second is that this equipment was transferred to Ukraine, at least as "spare parts donors," but the deliveries were made unofficially.

Earlier Defense Express reported that first 180K Czech artillery shells would arrive in Ukraine this June sespite "revealing cards" to russia and the West's "nental block".
