The 62nd Day of the War: Russian Casualties in Ukraine

20:28 Russia plans to hold a vote in the region to try to win popular support for the creation of a new entity called the Kherson People’s Republic, which would mirror similar entities in Ukraine’s far east, around Donetsk and Luhansk, which were created eight years ago.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recognition of the independence of those two entities in February was among the Russian President’s key announcements in the days leading up to the launch of his attack on Ukraine two months ago.

But on Tuesday morning, Ukrainian Interior Ministry advisor Vadym Denysenko said that pro-Russian officials were struggling to find enough people to facilitate a popular vote in Kherson.

“They cannot even hold a mock referendum, as they did in 2014 in Luhansk and Donetsk, because they realize they do not have a critical mass of people [to support them], even just to get a picture for TV,” Denysenko said, adding, “Besides, there are no people who will be ready to work at the polling stations.”

16:30 UK’s minister: It's completely legitimate for Ukraine to target military sites within Russia.

It's completely legitimate for Ukraine to be targeting military sites within Russia in order to disrupt the logistics.

"Ukraine is a sovereign country that was living peacefully within its own borders, and then another country decided to violate those borders and bring 130,000 troops across into their country. That started a war between Ukraine and Russia. And in war, Ukraine needs to strike into its opponents depth, to attack its logistics lines, its fuel supplies, its ammunition depots. And that’s part of it [war]," James Heappey, Minister for the Armed Forces at UK Ministry of Defence, said on the air of Times Radio, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, it's completely legitimate for Ukraine to be targeting in Russia’s depth in order to "disrupt the logistics that, if they weren’t disrupted, would directly contribute to death and carnage on Ukrainian soil."

At the same time, according to Heappey, the use of weapons provided by international partners is not a problem.

"I think that it’s certainly the case that things that the international community are now providing to Ukraine have the range to be used over the borders. But that’s not necessarily a problem. There are a lot of countries around the world that operate kit that they have imported from other countries," said the minister.

He summed up that Ukraine’s attacks on the targets inside Russia is the choice of Ukraine in response to Russia's choice to "indiscriminately bomb Ukrainian towns and cities."

Austin described Russia’s invasion and “atrocities” in Ukraine as “indefensible”.

13:50 The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine: In Chechnya, prisoners sent to war against Ukraine, incl relatives of opposition activists.

In Chechnya, prisoners, including relatives of oppositionists, are being sent to the war against Ukraine. The Russian Federal Security Service is collecting information about prisoners in local prisons for their subsequent sending to the war zone, according to the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

"The Chechen branch of the FSB collects information about inmates of local prisons for their subsequent shipment to the war zone. The correspondence of FSB officials contains a demand to provide personal data of the convicts, in particular: full names, home addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, IP addresses of the devices used to enter the social telecommunications network of the Internet," the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine says in post on its official page in Facebook.

Thus, the FSB demands that they provide information about citizens of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation for their further involvement in a special operation on the territory of Ukraine: those convicted to imprisonment for crimes of minor and medium gravity; those convicted to imprisonment for grave crimes; those convicted for especially grave crimes.

According to Chechen opposition social activists, such actions are aimed at replenishing the "human resources" of the units and suppressing any protest sentiments in Chechnya, since it is now common practice there to condemn the relatives of opposition activists.

"Now they face the threat of being forcibly sent to the hottest points of the front. In particular, the brother of well-known Chechen oppositionist Khasan Khalitov has already been taken to one of the front-line units. Khalitov's other relatives have been kidnapped, and their whereabouts are unknown," the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine noted.

01:30 Russian FSB made an explosive provocation in Moldova – Ukrainian Intelligence

Defense intelligence of Ukraine reports that on April 25, around 17:45 o'clock a series of explosions happened in the "capital" of the unrecognized "Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic". The explosions took place in the building that houses the offices of the local "State Security Ministry" and the branch of russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

As a result of the incident, the building was damaged, there were items left in the street nearby. Presumably, RPG-22 and RPG-27 were used.

Ukrainian intelligence has obtained documents indicating that it was actually a provocation aimed to create panic and spread anti-Ukrainian propaganda, plotted by FSB. They wanted to involve Moldova in the war against Ukraine or use the local armed formations as a military reserve.
