Operators of the Raid 413th Regiment hit russian Pantsir-S1 system on the Donetsk axis using a domestically produced strike drone

Operators of the 1st Battalion of the Raid 413th Regiment have struck russian Pantsir-S1 air defense system on the Donetsk axis, according to Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces. The engagement took place on February 27 near Mariupol, on the territory of the Azovstal industrial complex.

The strike was reportedly carried out using Ukrainian-produced middle strike unmanned system, indicating the use of a domestically developed medium-range precision drone. The successful hit against a high-value air defense asset highlights the growing technical maturity and operational reach of Ukraine's unmanned capabilities.

The Pantsir-S1 is a combined surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system designed to protect military and strategic facilities from aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. As a short- to medium-range air defense platform, it plays a key role in layered russian air defense architecture, particularly in frontline and rear-area protection.

With an estimated cost of approximately $15 million per unit, the destruction or disabling of such a system represents not only a tactical success but also a significant financial and operational loss for russian forces. Air defense assets like Pantsir-S1 system are intended to shield command posts, logistics hubs, and other critical infrastructure from aerial attack.

The strike near Mariupol is particularly notable given the symbolic and operational significance of the Azovstal area, which has been heavily militarized since the early stages of the full-scale invasion. Targeting air defense systems in this region may indicate preparations for further aerial or drone-based operations in the sector.

As Defense Express previously reported, operators of Ukraine's K-2 20th Unmanned Systems Brigade have released a compilation of recent combat engagements, showcasing strikes against russian assault troops and military equipment. The video, published on February 27 via the unit's official channel, highlights the sustained operational tempo of Ukrainian drone forces despite difficult battlefield conditions.
